And now that you don't have to be perfect, you can be good.

I demanded that we get a tree this year and so we did, quite late into Christmas too! It’s just a little one, no taller than I am and the poor guy’s a little bit flimsy and can’t hold up heavy ornaments, which means neither of us were able to hang all of our ornaments, but I’m not complaining! It was a dream come true really. All of the presents are neatly arranged under our Charlie Brown tree and Conor is persistent in his begging to open up “one” Christmas present. I always say no although sometimes I’ll toy with him first. Conor is the worst at waiting for his birthday or Christmas to come before he opens gifts. And it doesn’t help that our neighbors are opening one gift a day leading up to Christmas because they can’t fit all their gifts in their luggage (thanks a lot Mel and Ryan!). And so as grinch-like as this sounds, I will be grateful for Christmas Day because then the nagging will cease!! You know what I really dislike about Conor’s inability to just hang in there? I’m the one that got named the “peeker” in his family and FYI, I’ve never peeked. Not even once!

Here are a couple shots of our lowly Christmas tree and gifts. No ornaments in these ones!

I think it’s sweet actually that Conor wants to continue his traditions of opening a gift on Christmas Eve. Our family always did that too and of course it’s usually PJ’s but still fun!! /images/smileys/icon_smile.gif There’s nothing like holding onto your child-like wonder for as long as you can. I’m still a big kid I guess.
Cute little tree Katie, I’m sad to see that our presents aren’t under it yet. I have been praying for a miracle that they show up so you have more to open on the big day.
Thinking of you both!

Katie

It’s not quite like that Daria. It’s not Christmas Eve that Conor wants to open gifts, it’s every day. Today he said that the 22nd is Christmas and that we need to open our gifts. I’m totally okay with Christmas Eve gifts as long as there is a gift designated for Christmas Eve. We did that as children too. But this is so much different!

Thanks for the clarification, Katie- it was sounding like you were totally hard core!

I think your ‘peeker’ status was,( just so’s ya know) more around you ‘noticing’ the various and sundry stuff that I tend to leave around without thinking about what it does to a curious person-  my kids learned long ago to not ‘notice’ or they’d ruin surprises that were coming their way. /images/smileys/icon_smile.gif   You’ve now got the ‘not noticing’ down to a science, so its official, you are RETIRED from PEEKER STATUS!

True confession: I was totally a peeker for a SHORT time.  Especially when we lived in the US and presents were sent to us by the fam.  One year in New York I was so homesick/curious that I secretly opened every single gift – for the entire family!- and then carefully repackaged them exactly as they were…

For most of the years, though, I haven’t been a peeker, I am just ridiculously good at guessing- usually without even a clue!- everyone knows not to give me even a hint…

Your tree looks sweet.  Nothing like having the Christmas tree up.  Ours has been up, but was not decorated fully until last night. Hopefully we can get a photo that does it justice!

Mom

Your tree is great. Your place looks so much tider than the last photos showed!

nicole

love the tree. I say you give conor gag gifts to open like a lump of coal and burnt toast…then see if he still has the gift opening bug! /images/smileys/icon_smile.gif /images/smileys/icon_smile.gif
