Happy Mother’s Day to all you mothers! Today the office is getting together for a potluck dinner since none of us have family around and today is kind of a family sort of day. One of the office girls has a one year old son that is content with hanging out in the office all day. She’s the only mother around here!
This time last year, I gave a talk in my ward about Mothers. I was also recently engaged! That was a super fun Sunday. I remember that my family wasn’t the only ones there but also Conor’s family and his Nana and Grampa. I really appreciated the support I received that day from the “inlaws.” I was surprised that they all came but very happy!
Let me publically rave about my mother. She’s always been there for me. Always. I’ve always been able to lean on her. Often, I would come home at the end of an evening with my friends or a date and lay on her bed and tell her about my evening. I’ve cried and laughed on those nights. She’s always pulled me through. In so many ways I look to my mother. She is the be all to end all. The sacrafices she has made for my family are immense. I remember getting up and leaving the house 15 minutes earlier to get to seminary so I could ride the train with my mum. Often we spent those couple stops in silence, but that didn’t matter. That was time we were spending together. I’ll never forget my wedding day when my mother and I were in the sealing room with Sister Judy Hansen. I’ll never forget the first time I went to the temple and the clothing that my mother bestowed on me. One last thing about my mum; she has a lot of confidence. And she made sure that I have that same amount of confidence. I love my mum so much. And I am so glad that I am her daughter and will be so forever.
On a different family note, how grateful I am for Conor’s family! I love having nieces and nephews and I love seeing my sisters raise their children. I look forward to adding my mix to the grandkids. Furthermore, I love my mother in law. She is a wonderful woman. I like it when we can spend time just she and I. I remember one time when everyone was sick – she and I included. Mom came and saved me from getting cabin fever by taking me to the fabric store. By the end of that we were both exhausted but glad to have done something!
I really believe that there is nothing better in this world than a good mother. As I’ve pondered becoming a mother, I’ve quickly realized that it’s more than being pregnant, delivering and then having a baby. It’s so much more! No person can have a greater influence on the world than a mother. It is the most glorious calling a woman can have. How excited I am to become a mother one day!

16 May, 2007Nice to read about your life Katie. I really appreciate this opportunity to get to know you.
P.S. I think you meant rave instead of “rant” about your mother!
