And now that you don't have to be perfect, you can be good.

Soooo I had a bit of an idiot moment this week. I’m really, really running low on my perfume and I saw it at Superstore for $20 and to myself I thought, “huh that’s really cheap. I never knew.” AND I DIDN’T BUY IT! Surprise, it’s not actually that cheap in real life. It was on sale. Like 66% off. Monday I went to a couple Superstores to hear nothing but, “sorry we must be sold-out.” Yesterday I went to a third store and although they had the perfume the price was no longer a killer deal. Ugh.

I figure that this provides the perfect opportunity to discuss the difference between perfume and toilette. I can’t decide if I’ll stick with my perfume or if I should try out the toilette. Guidance please!

If memory serves, true perfume is the higher concentrated or purest form of the scent.  Real perfume also lasts a lot longer than eau d’ toilette. And is usually astronomically expensive- I inquired about purchasing my favorite scent, Light Blue, by D&G, in true perfume form awhile ago as I like the scent but wish that it lasted longer.

The clerk said that it is not made in that form due to cost, though it is sold as perfume.  Apparently today, real perfume isn’t usually sold much in anything but the so called ‘classics’- what we mere mortals purchase is called ‘parfume’ or something like that and isn’t the same thing.

When I was a child, my Mom’s signature perfume was “Joy”. It was very expensive and used for special occasions only.  A single drop would be sufficient and last the entire day and evenng.

Don’t ask how I know this stuff- but somewhere in the ladylike trivia section of my memorybank (probably acquired through extensive reading of 50’s era novels in my teens- I’ve always loved the old stuff)  that the ‘correct’ application of perfume is behind the ears, at the wrists and behind the knees.  If it is a spray, then also to aim a spritz high up in the air whereupon one is to step under the ensuing ‘cloud’ to allow it to rest upon one’s hair and person…drycleaners will disagree with that one, but it is a romantic notion.

I bought some more perfume to be exact. I even went for the big bottle, twice as much for $20 more.
