Here’s an update on all the immigration excitement. Conor and I went to the American Consulate downtown and took in our I-130 and began processing that, BUT we didn’t know I needed a long-form birth certificate for the application (it never said it anywhere!) so I was at the registry this afternoon, not only for the birth certificate but also for a marriage certificate. Guess what? They couldn’t find me! Which means my birth certificate has to be manually found (hello time consumption) and I didn’t know what information could be off. My name is pretty basic and I’ve been writing it out all my life and obviously I know my birthday. When I got home, I checked out my short-form birth certificate and my last name is spelt, “MC NEILL.” The space in between the C and the N is the big problem. I’ll be going back to the registry as soon as I’m done this post. And on top of that, our marriage certificate states that Conor was born in Alberta which is majorly off. Hopefully that’s a mistake of vital statistics and can be quickly fixed because if it’s our mistake then it’s going to be an even longer process where we have to sign a referendum or something like that.

On a more exciting/expensive side, I have to go to Montreal for my interview because that’s the only place to get an interview. Conor’s going to come with and we’ll just make a fun trip out of it and needless to say I am more excited than nervous! Should be so much fun!

Conor and I are really relieved that we came back to Canada to do this because the lady at the consulate told us that if we had applied while in the USA it would’ve taken 2-3 years for the visa to be approved versus the 5-8 months it’ll take here in Canada. I really feel that somehow we’ve made some great decisions about immigration.
