I already had the book with pattern and I already had the fabric so it made sense to make Holly a hat rather than buy one. I think she'll wear it. I like how it turned out! Most colors look great on Holly, but blue happens to be her favorite. (Her other favorites are pink and purple.) I read somewhere that the majority of skin damage via sun happens during childhood so I try to make an effort to protect my children. I'm not excelling, but each spring I renew my determination!

The pattern was really easy to put together. A beginner could definitely accomplish this!

I took these photos when she had just woken up from her nap. This is the first one I got and it's too funny to not post!Holly

I don't do a lot of sewing for boys, obviously. If we ever had a son, I think my little family's world would be rocked! Anyways, it's a bit of a treat when I get to sew something for a lad, and this baby hexagon quilt was no different! I made it for our dear friends, Melanie and Ryan. Their little guy is due any day! I loved working on this quilt and I'm happy with how it turned out, even if it is a little Settlers of Catan (total coincidence I swear!).

Ah, birthdays! Holly's friend had a birthday recently and instead of buying a gift, I decided to make one. I made a little art smock from the Oliver + S Little Things to Sew book. I didn't follow the directions completely, but it tunred out great and functional. I made it in size 4-6, which is kind of big, but I wanted it to last. I plan on making some girl ones, and I'll hem those so they're a little shorter and fit a tad better. I love handmade things! (By the way, I've been making like crazy over here so there will be lots of sewing posts!)

I had a crisis. My computer had only 5 GB left. And I had all these photos just sitting on my camera, waiting. We went to LA last weekend and saw family. The photos are suh-weet. But, you know, they were still on my camera until this afternoon. Last night, Conor took all the movies off my computer. I felt like I'd been wearing pants 3 times too tight and now I'm wearing some yoga pants. I can breath again. Sigh. Life is good.

Anyways, since Easter is almost here, I thought I'd do a quick share of some of the projects we've done. I'm trying to be better at crafting with Holly. I love to watch her create. I especially love it when she paints. She becomes so concentrated and I love the little pieces of art. We made a bunny garland and now it hangs in our living room looking ever so happy. We're not big on going big for holidays, but I do like to do something. I made some little bunny pouches and bunny finger puppets last night. Those bunny finger puppets looked like something I could just "whip up." Yaaaa... they took longer than I thought and I ended up working later than I intended last night because I also needed to make something for the girls to Easter egg hunt with for this morning... Totally not my style. I'm very rarely up late working on a deadline. I don't like working under that kind of pressure. But whatever, I got 'er done. And the bunny finger puppets are seriously adorable.

Anyways, the bunny puppets will go in the bunny pouches (which by the way, totally cool if you use cheap felt for these. I used the good stuff and they may not tie up so well - they're stiff), with a little bit of candy and I may make Holly some pastel play dough. Maybe.

I totally forgot to share this on my blog until I saw it on pinterest! Obviously, a one-year old doesn't have a birthday wishlist and to be honest there wasn't much Greta needed. I make my girls a brithday dress each year, and we usually give them a book or two. In Greta's case, we gave her Hug Time because she's our cuddler and always wants hugs and kisses. But I wanted to do something special for her, something that could maybe be a keepsake. I embroidered a Princess and The Pea pattern for her that I had come across on Etsy. It was so fun to work on! Holly really enjoyed observing my progress too. It now hangs in the girls' room. It's kind of perfect because Greta is a little princess. She had this sleeper when she was still small that said "Princess" on it and we would roll our eyes at her because we were always getting up with her in the night. She's very peticular about certain things and can be extremely sensitive - I'm sure she would feel that pea! Lately, she's been putting on a "shy" act. Yes, Greta's shy and Holly launches into a full-on conversation with anyone that glances in her general direction! They are such a funny pair!
