And now that you don't have to be perfect, you can be good.

John Steinbeck

We've begun potty training. It's way hard! Holly's been interested in the potty for a while now and is always asking to sit on the potty. So, since I don't have any friends, I decided to jump headfirst into potty training. Holly was really emotional and screamed a ton yesterday. I think she felt really anxious about the transition. The anxiety died down today quite a bit, but we still had a couple meltdowns. Buuut, we've had some success. Yesterday, Holly pooped on the potty. She was panicking a little bit leading up to it, but she did it and I was amazed. And then she peed once in the potty. Whenever she wet herself she would say, "potty" or acknowledge that it was happening.

Today, she was much less anxious. We tried pull-ups this morning because she saw them and wanted to wear them, but those were just a waste. She used them like a diaper. Holly again pooped in the potty and peed once. But, that was all. Here's what I found really frustrating. Nearly every time the little stinker would wet herself it was within 5 minutes of her getting up from the potty after sitting on it for a good amount of time. I'm not totally sure what to do about that! Do I take her off and then put her back on again? Oh, and she stopped acknowledging that she had peed. My tactic for getting her to sit on the potty for a while is I give her a fun sticker and we play with it and talk about it. It's great bonding time for us, lots of quality time! But, my question is, do you have any suggestions? I think if she had 3 successful pee in the potty experiences, we'd be in the clear and I would feel much better. So how do I get Holly to stop wetting herself shortly after she's just sat on the dang pot?

I have the same problem with Ethan.  Let us know if you find a good solution!

Well… that is what happened with Levi a few months ago for me.  A few times with accidents and he decided he would not wear big boy undies forever!  Then just like two days ago he decided he needed to go potty and went.  We put on big boy undies and he had one accident and that has been it!  He totally is potty training himself!  I have heard that it is easier for girls but I don’t know how true that it.  We are still going back and forth between diapers as I am not totally committed myself yet.  He is loving running to the bathroom and taking off all of his clothes and going for it!  So… no advice other than to make sure you are both committed.  And no advice as I am still trying to figure it out!  Good luck!  Miss you guys!

My only major suggestion is stay a way from pull ups they are not good thevthings I read up on even say the training pants with the foam isn’t as good as just normal panties they don’t like it when it runs down her leg. More mess though.  get her ones of her favorite character marley did not want to get Elmo and Dora wet it worked it’s not fun and totally stressed me out  but when she is ready it will all work out

Hi there,
I’m a friend of your Mom"s from Book Club.  I have three daughters, and what worked for us was sacrificing a whole warm day outside with the potty, and without a diaper or underpants on.  I would tell the neighbors what was going on so no one reported us for indecent exposure, and away we  went.  For some reason, they wouldn’t want to pee on the ground.  They would sit on the potty.  We did have to spend the whole day outside however.  I didn’t want to risk pee on my furniture or carpet.  Good luck, and eventually she’ll get it even if this trick doesn’t work for you!!!
