I love this cheery red fabric and I had originally intended it for Greta, but then decided to use it for myself! I wanted something casual. I like the look of shirts where the back is longer than the front, plus with all the bending and picking up of children I do, it adds to my modesty. I altered a simplicity 2246 pattern, which I most recently used for it's intended shirt dress. I changed the neckline and the sleeves. And overall, it turned out well. It definitely has it's flaws, but it's been a long time since I've done any sort of alterations and I don't think I've ever changed anything as much as I did this. So whether or not it's perfect is not a point of concern. I tried something new and succeeded well enough and that's success enough for me! I'm dying for a bodyform so that I can manipulate more patterns!

One of the best things Holly frequently says to me is, "I so wuv you." This little girl is beautiful on the inside and out. She has a big heart and a lot of love!

Ah, our first real beach trip of the year! It was such a nice weekend in Santa Clara, so obviously Santa Cruz should be gorgeous and definitely reach it's predicted high right? Wrong. Santa Cruz, you're so touchy sometimes! It was a chilly trip, but we still had so much fun! Good food, good company! Plus a kite, and two toddlers who wanted to strip down to their "schwim shuits." I still can't believe I live in California.

This weekend I competed in a mud run in Lathrop with some of the girls. Leading up to it, I kept wondering what the heck I was thinking. I don't care to be dirty, but I kept telling myself it would be fun, a bit of an adventure. Plus, both my running buddies were going. And it was super fun. There were 16 obstacles (mud pits, monkey bars, ropes, etc) and the first one was a pool of super muddy water with bunting 8 inches above the surface so were were all getting down and dirty crawling through the mud. After that you're committed! I wore a pair of shoes that I just tossed at the end. Man, we were all dirty! Luckily there were showers. It was so much fun and I can't wait for next year! The total distance was 3.47 miles and It took me 45 minutes. Not very fast (I was there to have fun), but I ran pretty much the entire time! I had a sharp rock in my sock that was hurting my big toe so bad! I was 43 out of 244 in my age group, and 900 out of 4684 overall.

Andrea and I on the home stretch. Oh my, it was so hot!mud run
The final obstacle was super muddy.mud run
At the end I was desperately trying to pick of speed to finish strong, but my shoes were filled with water and mud and then there was a corner... not the most ideal way to finish but I did it!mud run

Folks, this is big. I've made a lot of clothes in my life, but I think this is it. This is my favorite thing I've made. Everything came together on this one. First, the fabric is perfect. Voile - beautiful, airy and soft. And a lovely, feminine geometric print in a blue I really like. Second, the pattern. Oh my goodness the pattern. I like a loose top and this Scout tee has it all. Cap sleeves, rounded neckline, great shape, slightly longer in the back... Yup, my favorite thing. I'm going to make another one, and then probably another one after that. My only alteration was lengthening by 3 inches. I'm long in the waist and I wanted it to be a touch on the lengthier side. It sewed up so quickly and easily and is effortless to wear. Conor said it makes me look even skinnier, but I'm not sure if he meant that in a good way or a bad way. I think it was merely a statement.

If you sew one thing from my blog, sew this one!
