Isn’t Daria the best? She has so many secrets to reveal! I checked out the blogsite, freshly baked today and was thoroughly impressed. As you can see it’s been added to my blogroll. I am extremely excited to try out the Pumpkin Chocolate Chip cookies. I don’t know what it is with me and pumpkin. Ever since I tried Pumpkin ice cream at the Marble Slab a year ago, I’ve been head over heels about everything pumpkin (with the exclusion of pumpkin pie… odd I know). I found a pumpkin soup recipe in October’s Martha Stewart magazine and am so excited to try it out! Yum! I’m thinking about buying a couple pumpkins, baking them and then freezing the good stuff. I wonder if that is cost friendly?
Here’s an update on the unpacking: We’ve put up 2 photo frames – one of roses in the bathroom, and the one President and Sister Vriens gave us of Pratt’s hill. That one went over the bed. The living room has been fiddled with so that the couch has a place. I even browned ground beef today. I’ll be doing a lot of organizing over the next week or two until I have everything just the way I want it! Oh! And it sounds like Conor and Dad found some stools for the counter top at American Furniture Warehouse (not to be confused with the Canadian one). Those two are quite the pair. Today they went on and on about things to slipcover. Like to G5 box. Oh brother. Tonight we’re thinking about going to see Transformers at the imax theatre. Fun fun!
Now I am in Denver. It was a safe trip. Uncomfortable though. “3 Seater” Uhauls actually mean “2 and one half seater” simply because you must have one half a bum to sit comfortable on that middle seat and you also must be half the height of the average person. Brutal. I know. Survival of the fittest. The good part was watching “Heroes” for a large chunk of the last 3/4. Phew.
Our apartment here was dirty. I still need to hit the bathroom. It’s definitely not unpacked. I think that setting up the computer last night was perhaps a mistake simply because now that’s quite the focus. Boxes remain everywhere. It’s messy up in here.
I went to go buy a new journal today. My favourite type of journal is only sold in Canada. I’m so incredibly heartbroken and frusterated. I feel very annoyed. Here’s a fab Christmas gift. The brand is Pierre Belvedere and it’s sold in every chapters, hallmark, etc in Calgary. The link: http://www.pierrebelvedere.com/en/index.cfm. Follow that to products and down to Products, then paper, then blank books, then to the “Made in Italy.” That’s what I like. These journals are lasting. They still look nice when I’m done with them. I judge every other book and compare it to Pierre Belvedere. Let me tell you this, the next time I come to Calgary I am stocking up. I feel slightly upset with myself because I didn’t buy one while I was there. I knew I was running out of journal space! Arg! The agony!

The other day it was boots. And then I bought some. Today it’s something a tad bit more expensive and permanent. Conor and I went to the Home Show at the Round-Up center and ran into an AGA oven. I personally have never witnessed one before. The Watkins have one. However, it was love at first sight. What a beautiful machine. Conor said that we could buy one before we buy a new car. Woo hoo! However we also need to have the kitchen to facilitate it. I want it all. The full sized real one and the companion. Head over heels baby! There are 4 colours that I would like all dependent on the kitchen we end up in – cream, chocolate, pewter or red (in that choice order as well). I think that I would want the gas burner to replace the warming plate. It’s quite a suiting piece of equipment for me to have since I enjoy baking and cooking so much. Plus we plan on having an army of children. Conor has such fond memories of morninngs at the Watkin home warming up by the stove. I’ve already decided that I want a large kitchen. That’s a room where I think that a lot of family memories occur. Plus I love being in the kitchen. Since I’ve already dreamed up a large kitchen, there will surely be room for my full-sized AGA stove (and companion). I love where Conor and I are in life. We can freely dream without guilt simply because we don’t know what’s ahead of us! It’s a great way to be. I’ve dreamed up the house that I want to live in and to some degree the kitchen. The location has been decided. I’m ready for now to start, followed by the rest of our lives. What a wonderful life I live!

I’m willing to fully confess that I am one of those weird people who enjoy visiting the dentist. I like having my teeth cleaned a lot. It’s so nice. Dr. Nathan Muirhead got me all sealed up, cleaned up and fluorided. I also got impressions for a new retainer set. I’m very excited that Nate did all that dental work for me and hugely grateful! Gotta love the family ties!

It’s that time of year again… CANNING! After two days of picking crabapples followed by hours of chop chop chopping, we are now onto juice. There is still more chopping to go and more picking to go however the juice has thus far come out more beautiful and more red than it did last year. Gorgeous. I quite enjoy the colour! I have discovered that I like the juice warm, like crabapple cider. With a stick of cinnamon, it’s divine.
I’m excited to see what Colorado has to offer in terms of canning. I value the art of canning. Last year we did peaches and crabapple preserves. This year it’s just crabapple juice and perhaps some peach sauce for dinners. I fully intend on having at least one crabapple tree in my yard (when I get a yard) and canning will be a Muirhead family tradition!
