“Museum”

Honestly, this wasn't my favorite display of art, but the pieces did inspire Maeve to run around growling! There were some neat pieces that I enjoyed, but the majority were a little out there for me. I dunno, as someone who was brought to tears by the Mona Lisa in person, I just couldn't appreciate the recreation that I saw. Am I just uneducated or unappreciative? I'm not sure.

One morning this week, we visited 4 museums. The museum of contemporary art was one of them. It was a really beautiful space with really interesting pieces. I especially loved the wax flowers.

A few photos at the Museo de Filatelia de Oaxaca. This is a really neat and well designed space. We've popped in a couple of times now. This one visit, we were here playing and waiting for a tour at the botanical gardens.

We visited the Instituto de Artes Gráficas de Oaxaca and the space was so beautiful. The inner courtyards were really gorgeous with so many plants and the perfect amount of life. There were many rooms filled with design books and some art on display. The art primarily addressed abuse, global warming, repression... all more serious matters. It was a sobering and inspiring visit.

After we visited the Centro Cultural San Pablo (last week), we went next door to view the Textile Museum. I really, really love fabric. And I especially love the textiles of Latin America. I was wowed by them in Ecuador and I feel the same sense of awe here. I'm looking forward to going to a weaving place of some sort. I have a couple leads. I have a strong appreciation for the work that goes into the pieces that are made by hand. It's not uncommon to see someone embroidering while sitting in their little booth shop with other embroidered items for sale. So seeing this museum and seeing the indigo displays and the big weaving loom for children was really inspiring. A friend had said that maybe this museum would be boring for children, but I've instilled a love of fabric in textiles in my children and so they were thrilled to look at the different pieces. Holly has a very distinct idea of what she would like to buy while here.
