I get to give a talk in a week and half. I’m one of those people who loves to give talks! Love it! One of the best parts about bouncing around so much is that Conor and I have had a lot of opportunities to speak in the last 2 years. In the last 2 1/2 years, I’ve given 3 talks and this one will make 4!
My topic suits September and is… Education. I did a little bit of an “ugh” when the bishopbric member revealed to me this topic (of course he gave me the option to choose, but I’d like to think that there is some inspiration). As I’ve dipped my toes into the surface of this topic I feel calm about the whole thing. The scripture that I’ve decided my talk will revolve around is, “Seek learning, even by study and also by faith” (D&C 88:118). My insecurities with the topic of education lie solely in the push for formal education. I was laughing to Conor as I thought aloud about saying something along the lines of go to university or college (hypocrite) and then say unless you’re married in which case you should start a family (double hypocrite). Ha! Anyways, super stoked to prepare this talk!
It is cold this morning! We’re talking 39F or 4C. Retarded! Talk about a great way to ring out August (sarcasm). This morning as I began to plan what the heck I would wear on my body, I couldn’t help but feel dismayed. Sure I thought of a jumper I could wear that I recently made and then I thought it would look cute with such and such fancy button cardigan and a skinny belt. But guess where my fancy button cardigan is?? Denver. DENVER! The same place my black boots are. The same place the rest of my relatively vast fall and winter wardrobe are. Needless to say, I will be doing some downright serious sewing in the next few weeks or… well you don’t want to know the alternative.
PS: this whole cardigan thing is significant because for a moment I thought I had actually toted the cardigan here to Canada with me and I went to my drawers in hope only to be quickly crushed. I honestly don’t think I have enough winter clothes here. Am I worldly? I need to take up thrift shopping…
I’m all done my jam, or at least I hope I am. I canned eight and a half cups of nectarine jam this afternoon which completes my jam plan. All in all, I managed to make saskatoon berry jam, two batches of strawberry jam, two batches of raspberry jam, peach jam, peach ginger glaze and nectarine jam! I bought 2 dozen 125 mL jars so that I could give a sampling of jam for Christmas. Perfect for our Gramma’s!

Oh and I say I hope I’m done because today Catherine, my mother-in-law, showed me a book entitled “Small-Batch Preserving” with “over 300 delicious recipes.” Will the temptation never end??
Check out this site, watch the video and then tell me why I don’t own a tart pan!
I’ve been totally sucking at blogging lately. Every time I sit down to write (not that I have recently) I begin to type, hit a wall and walk away. There’s nothing. So in an attempt to rediscover my blog, I’m going to share a cookbook I rediscovered this evening. Martha Stewart’s Cookies is one of the best cookbooks I own. Not that I’ve made a lot out of it. It is so easy to want to make a tantalizing treat because of the photographs. So delicious looking! I absolutely love this cookbook and it’s layout and I really need to get cracking on moving through the recipes. Tonight I made the usual, chocolate-chip cookies. They’re good! Next time I take a stab at a sweet recipe I want to make Key Lime Bars, Peanut Butter Swirl Brownies, Cream-Cheese Lemon Bows, Coconut Maroons, or Pumpkin Cookies with Brown-Icing Sugar. And if anyone wants to gift me a Madeleine Pan or two, I will more than willingly and happily make a Lemon Madeleines for them!
