Today I have been babysitting Ryder (commonly found on Conor’s photoblog and in the Pointe office). After playing at the park, pushing a stroller, reading an interactive book, changing an explosive (and I mean EXPLOSIVE – this sucker was soaking through) diaper, and trying to lay him down for a nap (surprisingly all he needs to reenergize is a 10 minute lay down with his bottle), I have decided that perhaps motherhood isn’t for me. Just kidding! I like it. It’s just like normal life except there’s a baby making faces at himself in the oven! Yes! I think I could do this 24-7. Then again, I just get the fun part. And I give him back. I’m not up in the middle of the night with him (thank goodness). BUT I could do this! Yes it’s been fun morning and early afternoon.

Every now and then I wonder why I blog. Why do I share so much of my life with the internet? I’m the type that is usually desperate to let you know all about me, but remains reserved all the same likely due to previous experience. It’s funny, those times, when in my head I can hear everything I want to say repeat over and over. For some reason those sentences in my mind are the hardest things to form into words, into speech. And so I have concluded that my ability to communicate verbally and my inability to communicate verbally are sometimes my greatest strengths and weaknesses, respectively. It’s interesting, the things I learn about myself. I really do hope that my blog has been a genuine point of attraction and not a waste of time. I suppose this specific post contains a secret of mine and I hope I’m not foolish to publish it. Then again, there is always the safety net of “delete.”
I like the weekends. Actually I love the weekends. Finally, we’re able to just let go of work and move on to real life.
Saturday night we had to go shopping because unfortunately a pen won the battle in the washer and dryer over Conor’s shorts (as well as other articles of clothing). Good thing trusty Gap had a sale! Ha. (And by the way, the baby stuff they have right now is incredibly CUTE.) Conor also needed new shoes in a bad way. Man that kid is a trooper. His black shoes were turning purple from the sun, worn in at the bottom and to the plastic on the inside! Holy smokes!
Yesterday afternoon, we babysat the office baby – Ryder. It was hard to entertain him. We have nothing in our house! No toys no nothing! He played with a cup, a hairclip and lip chap. And he also climbed on the coffee table! Ha! Somehow he survived the lonely emptiness of our apartment.
This wasn’t the most exciting weekend we’ve ever encountered, however we didn’t have to work. And that holds it’s own unique thrill.

I love to read. LOVE it. It’s one of my favourite things. I devoured all of the Harry Potter books in my youth. Little House on the Prairie series I absolutely chewed through at least 2 or 3 times. Babysitter club when I was in elementary was a goner. I think they came out with at least 100 books. Booya. I loved those. I’ve started making a list of series I want to read to my children. It’s been a while since I picked up a book. In the spring I read a bunch of Jane Austen’s books. I just crave a good read always. There is nothing better than a good book! Yesterday morning, Conor really wanted a novel and I was totally gun-ho! He bought the book 5 people you meet in heaven or something along those lines. And I bought “Suite Francaise” by Irene Nemirovsky. This book really intrigued me. It begins in 1940 as the Nazis occupy France. This book was actually hidden and unknown for 64 years. The author was highly successful as a writer, however she was a Jew and died in Auschwitz in 1942 and never completed the book. I quite like books based on the wars, first and second. So far I like this book! I would love to hear about everyone’s favourite books! I need to make a “To Read” list. So please tell me what books you like! My only demand is that the books MUST be clean. I’m not the type to be able to just “skip over” the bad parts. Let me know what my next read should be.
So maybe I have a couple of stops to work on before I can be “such a good mum.” For example, sure Conor and I slathered up before we went to Water World, but we should have RE-APPLIED during the day. Conor is so sore. And as it turns out it just took a little longer for my sunburn to reveal itself. I am in pain. PAIN. Oh well. It’s not as bad as that sunburn I got when we first arrived. Man, who knew? I thought we were being good just by putting on sunscreen. I never even thought to reapply until Conor started complaining and by then it was too late.
On a more pleasant note, we went to a great restaurant last night called Rodizio Grill. It’s a Brazilian place and all around delicious! First, you start at the salad bar and get whatever you want from there. Then after munching on that for a bit, they bring out the meat! So many different kinds! Turkey wrapped in bacon, pork sausage, a spicy chicken, marinated chicken, top sirloin, pork loins, pot roast, ham and pineapple (dad we talked about you at that point. This was Conor’s personal favourite)! And they keep on bringing it out until you feel like you’re going to burst and can eat no more! Mmm. It was such a neat restaurant. We highly recommend you put Rodizio Grill on your “To Do” list for when you all come to visit!
