What better way to celebrate the fourth of July than by forgetting what the heck day it is and spending a day in sun and water? Oh and also not paying for a thing besides the gas to get there and back. Woo hoo! We went to Water World today. It’s a pretty fun place. It wasn’t as hot today. Right now at 5 pm it’s 35 degrees but every now and then the sun goes away. We had so much fun! This one ride – the Revolution – was a hoot and totally worth the wait! Another really great one was the voyage to the center of the earth. It was nice a long and had tons of dives! I really liked it. Afterall it was honoured as one of the top 5 amusement rides in America by USA Today in 1993. Ha. Nah it was really great. I liked that it didn’t last for 20 seconds. It was a 5 minute ride! There are definitely rides that I want to check out next time. Conor got sunburnt on his back and I think my shoulders are a little pink but other than that we did really well. Of course we sunblocked up this morning before we even left the house (I’ll be such a good mum). Another thing we learned for next time is to wear shoes at all times! The pavement is a little scratchy and gets super hot and so the balls of our feet are so tender. If they were a steak… they would be great fired up on the BBQ, but no, we have to walk and stand on them! Oh well! It was worth the sacrafice. Well after much consideration, I booked a flight to Calgary for July 24. Yes, I am coming home for 10 days. The sad and most heart wrenching part is that I am coming home to pack up 319 Jackson Pl. Our first home. The place we love. I think I might be a little bit of an emotional roller coaster (just as a warning). Don’t get me wrong, I am really REALLY excited to go home. However, along with packing up our first home, Conor and I have never spent one night away from each other and I can’t sleep unless he’s cuddling me. So to add to the emotional roller coaster, I may be sleep deprived. As I think of things over the next few days, I’ll be putting them up for sale or for give away. For example I think I’ll sell our washer and dryer. For a good price of course. I wish we could just keep all of our stuff. I don’t want to go to a laundromat or anything here in Denver, but it’s gotta happen. I’ll also be de-junking left, right and center. So I guess I’ll see you Calgarians in 3 weeks!
Yesterday was my beloved country’s birthday. Unfortunately i was not in my country for that glorious celebration. Instead I was here. In Colorado. At church the opening and closing hymns were “America the Beautiful” and “The Star Spangled Banner.” I couldn’t do it. I just couldn’t sing those hymns on Canada day. I felt like I was a traitor to my country when I did. Plus I felt so homesick that I couldn’t sing! I’m so grateful for Canada. And man am I ever going to miss it over the next few years. There is no better place to be than in Canada!
It was a great Thursday night. I had gotten off work nice and late – at about 11:30. I couldn’t just go straight home, oh no. Before I dare show my face at number 15-103, I had to purchase a plunger. Yup that’s right. A toilet plunger. Nothing like being in Albertsons looking for a PLUNGER. Geez. I had to ask the stinking clerk what isle and then to top it all off one of the guys at the office ended up helping me find one. Hello embarrassment. Fortunately the humour in all of this was frankly apparent and I could not hold back laughter at my own self and at what I was doing. Five dollars later and a little bit of work in the bathroom – wait those don’t exist here in the USA – in the restroom, and everything was back to working order. Pheww!
So I was driving home from Greeley and traffic was so fast and slow, fast and slow. One time I was caught behind a truck with mattresses in the back. Fortunately traffic picked up again and I managed to pass that truck. Interestingly enough, I looked in my rear view mirror just in time to see one of the three mattresses fly out of the back of that truck onto the road right in the lane that I was in. Instantly I had the impression that I had been protected. I’m positive that a mattress could do some damage to a car going 70 mph. I hope you all feel like you are being watched over and protected like I am!
