Conor and Katie the Newlyweds is a title that I feel no longer applies to us and hasn’t for a while. I recognize that it’s not a bad title however, I am absolutely positive that no one would call us newlyweds if we had a child to tack onto the Conor and Katie. Think about it, do you consider someone to be newlywed if they’re lugging around a baby even though they’ve only been married 9-10 months? No. It’s probably because they’ve visually consummated their marriage. Can’t we be just Conor and Katie and be accepted as such even though, no, especially since we don’t have children?
Last night the Muirheads celebrated a big birthday (my mother-in-law turned 29!) and we had a lot of fun! We started the night off at a dance lesson at Eau Claire Market downtown. We danced the Mamba and Salsa – very sexy. Between dancing and dinner we had some time to spare leaving us all a little camera happy. A lot of photos were taken, mostly by Elizabeth. We also went to the candy store at Eau Claire and stocked up on some overly priced classic favourites. Dinner at the Keg was delicious however I could hardly eat any of it! Oh what a night!
Friday and Saturday I managed to crank out a vintage-style dress for the event. I often wonder why I do these marathon sews since I feel ridiculously psychotic in the last 2-3 hours. The dress did turn out lovely and I’m pleased with it even though I need to spend another few hours with it.
Here are some photos of the gang:

Guess who’s playing playing field hockey again? ME! I joined a club and had my first game last night. I had to replace pretty much all my gear since the original paraphernalia is in storage in.. Denver. I didn’t mind so much since most of the stuff is pretty stinky. You could also say I upgraded slightly. My new cleats fit a bit better (and are also way styling pumas) and although I am hugely attached to my first stick, I have to say that my new one is pretty snazzy. The game was such a blast and playing again really was like riding a bike. I hadn’t forgotten nearly as much as I thought and I found that I can still send that ball flying. It was so awesome! I’m extremely happy to be playing field hockey again. Today my back and my butt hurt, which reminded me that my backside will probably be getting a little plumper (with muscles of course). Since playing I’ve had strong urges to hit a ball against my parents’ fence until I blast a couple holes; it’s taking a lot of self-restraint not to (don’t worry Mom, I won’t do it!). The uniforms are a little… ghetto. Plaid skirts. Whoo hoo! At least the jerseys redeem – green and white sleeveless. I would love a little familia support if anyone would like to come and see me play; I will have a game every Wednesday evening. The point of this post: I couldn’t be more thrilled to be playing again.
Oh, and a quick thank-you to my sponsors. Daddy and Conor: I couldn’t be doing this without YOU!
Last night I was lucky enough to take care of two of my most favourite girls ever! My nieces Freyja and Cora came over for an evening of fun. And we did have lots of fun despite the fact that there are a whole lot less toys here at my parents’ house than I last remembered. Oops! Freyja was in heaven because my family has two dogs and two cats. She wanted to feed them and pet them and she even tried to ride one of them once. Nearing the end of our night I gave Freyja a dog treat to give to one of the dogs (sit, shake a paw, etc) and I handed the other treat over, without explanation – just assuming she would know, to my sugar-loving, treat-devouring Cora. After Freyja had given her treat to a dog, I looked over at Cora only to notice a protruding chipmunk cheek! She had put the dog treat into her mouth and was munching away! Oh I freaked out and made her spit it out and then have a drink of water. Throughout all of this she was rather silent so I’m not sure if she didn’t mind the dog treat. Freyja and I had a good long, gut-splitting laugh over that. Silly Cora!

I am absolutely pathetic when I am without my man. Like so utterly pathetic, piteous, forlorn, distressed and lonely without my sweetheart, Conor. Usually I’m not into this mushy-gushy stuff however the thought of being away from him for even one night sends me into a ridiculously deep valley of depression. And that’s one night! One time when we still lived in our beloved (but now tornado torn) Denver, Conor went to the west coast and I cried for days before he left in serious anticipation of the sorrow I would feel when he was actually removed from my presence. If any of you are labeling me as a Drama Queen I encourage you to look at this whole can’t-be-on-my-own as me being desperately and madly in love with my husband because although I hate (like loathe) being away from Conor, I appreciate that times like these really do encourage appreciation for him and help me to recognize just how much I love him and need him. Yes, I need Conor. I honestly do not think I could live a full and fully-fulfilling life without him.
