“Made”

This is one of my favorite sewing patterns of all times. This is the third year I've made up Oliver and S Puppet Show Shorts and the last year Holly will fit the pattern sizing. When I asked Greta at the store if she wanted shorts out of this fabric, she said a firm, "no." Baby girl is very specific about what she likes (and shorts aren't really her thing!). Holly, on the other hand, was thrilled with this garment. The shorts are fun and vibrant and are quite comfortable. The fabric has a great drape and weight and is still very soft. It's become so satisfying to sew for Holly. She's developed such a wonderful appreciation for the things I make her and it makes me want to sew for her constantly. She has a grateful heart. I hope she gets lots of use out of these shorts this summer!

Greta's horse dress is pretty much the same as Holly's dress. I made similar changes to the pattern to get what I wanted. I did choose to make the dress a little longer than I typically make dresses. It took a bit of bribery to get Greta into the dress for a couple pictures. I really love it on her and I'm hopeful she'll get a good amount of use out of it! I've noticed a pattern with my girls. Sometimes a dress doesn't become really loved until it's been hanging in their closet for 6 months minimum. And typically, that means the season has already passed...

This is the third scout tee I've made, although it's been a couple years since I made the first two. The fabric I used, I bought from Britex over a year ago for something crazy like $35/yard. I love it. It's super soft, italian cotton (hand wash only, but it did ok in my machine on delicate). Again, this tee is so easy to sew up - it takes me something like an hour and a half, start to finish. I feel like it's a good one, and it was fantastic to sew something for myself. I need to do more of that.

One thing I made this month was a horse dress for Holly. She hovered over me, waiting not-so-patiently for me to be finished. Since I finished it, she's worn it a ton! I love this stage that Holly's in. She loves the things I sew for her, really expresses appreciation and proudly boasts to whomever she sees telling them, "my Mom made this dress for me." It's really cute, and it's a lot of fun to sew for her!

The dress is a modified bubble dress from Oliver + S. I lengthened the skirt by quite a bit and added around 10 inches to the skirt width. The fabric is Wee Wander from Sarah Jane Studios. I'm in love with all the fabric from this line. It's incredible, imaginative, vibrant and so perfect for childhood. I'm definitely buying more to make more dresses for my daughters.

I'm so grateful this dress is such a win. I love it on Holly. I love Holly. She's such a wonderful child.

(I made Greta a horse dress too. We'll see if I can convince/bribe her to wear it and snap some pictures. My children come by their stubbornness honestly...)

January was a very productive sewing month for me despite travel. I finished up one quilt top for my dear friend's beautiful baby girl and I made a second quilt start to finish for our next door neighbors and their new bundle. For the first one, I used Heather Ross Briar Rose fabric (the same stuff I used for the girls' quilts), and for the second quilt, I used some free spirit fabric that I had around. I've made 4 quilts (I think) from that one half yard bundle purchase. Babies are so wonderful and it's nice to help celebrate.
