“Made”

I made both my girls chambray Oliver+S puppet show shorts. I thought these would make a great basic for summer. When I finished them, Greta said to me, "I don't want shorts! I want a skirt!" Needless to say, she has yet to wear them. And I don't think she ever will. She would not wear them just for some pictures. Holly has yet to really wear hers. I think I need to remind her that they're in her drawer. Or I need to stick to skirts and dresses! Either way, I just love these shorts. They're so cute, simple and childish.

This is the last hopscotch dress I'll be sharing this spring. This was also one of the first round dresses. I started out making a 3T (for Greta) and a 4T (for Holly), but I ended up melting the 3T (whoops), and as it turned out the 4T was too small for Holly. I tossed the melted one, and the other one sat in my cupboard for a while. And then I finally trimmed off some of the length and hemmed it and now Greta can wear it. Greta has more knit dresses than she truly needs but I don't feel so bad since dresses and skirts are all she wears. She does not wear pants/shorts, the only exception is about once a month she'll wear a pair of pajama pants to bed. I made her a pair of shorts last month. Her response, "I didn't want shorts! I wanted a skirt."

She'll wear this dress 2-3 days in a row... so I'd say it's a win.

My computer was upgraded, and that makes it so much easier to take photos and edit them. Honestly, the laptop I was working with was getting old... it was swelling the screen edge had snapped... it began to be downright miserable to use. But, now I'm upgraded (to an existing laptop) and it feels so good. Basically, what I'm trying to say is that my blog will most likely no longer have the long stints of no new posts.

I'm clearly obsessed with Heather Ross's Briar Rose line of fabric. I've used it all. All the quilting cottons for quilts for my daughters as well as a quilt for a friend. I'm hoarding what I have leftover. It's borderline embarrassing. I've now used all 4 of her knit fabrics too. These hopscotch dresses are big hits. The girls love to wear them. Conveniently, they come together really easily and wear well. You can bet I'll be making more... at least one of these and maybe a couple t-shirts are on my list of things to make for Holly's kindergarten wardrobe. Making lemonade out of lemons. If my baby girl has to go to school, then I'm gonna make her cute clothes to wear there.

Oh and by the way, Holly's working on her modeling poses and she has be cracking up!

I've been itching to sew for myself... I've done almost zero shopping for myself lately and my closet is feeling a little sad.

I made myself a Lisette Everyday Skirt. I've already made one (a few months ago, out of corduroy), so it was super simple and quick to put together. I chose to use a bright floral sateen. It's very comfortable to wear, and has a nice "bubble" to it. Pockets are always a plus!

I've wanted to try out the Oliver and S hopscotch dress for a little while and I finally tried it this month. These dresses are not my first try... I began dresses for the girls with different fabric, but I melted Greta's dress... and then Holly's size 4 barely fits her, so it's still unhemmed. It fits Greta much better. It was good that I made the melting mistake and figured out the O+S small sizing on this pattern (their patterns usually run a little bit big) before I cut into my Heather Ross knit fabric. I cut out Greta's dress in a 4 and Holly's in a 6 (!!!) and I didn't alter the length on either. Holly and Greta were waiting at the edge of the table as I finished their dresses and as soon as I had trimmed threads, they threw their dresses on and wore them for the remainder of the day! And then they wore them for the next 2+ days. Holly wore her dress 4 days in a row! I love it when I nail homemade clothes for them. I'm thinking about buying Heather Ross's strawberry knit fabric and making another set of dresses this month...

And what's better than two sisters that love each other? Conor and I love how well they play together. Holly and Greta are best friends!
