Yesterday afternoon, we went to Boulder, Co with our good friends, Ryan and Melanie. It was my first visit and I really loved it. Boulder is perfectly nestled in the start of the mountains so even though I was in a city, I felt as though I was still outdoors, with the fresh air and the beautiful rolling mountains. We spent the afternoon seeing shops in the main downtown area and then we went to a super sweet Italian restaurant for supper and even though our waitress was a ditz, we had a great time! And of course, the evening wouldn’t have been complete without a couple of games of Ticket to Ride when we got home!

I’ve popped. I have my little tub of a belly. I don’t know how I feel about it and how I feel losing some of my bodily visibility. It’s a little odd….

I haven’t felt the baby move (I don’t think), however about a week or so ago I made the baby promise to not tie a knot in his/her umbilical cord. This little sucker better keep his/her agreement! I always know when my belly is going to grow because it aches and it hurts and when I wake up in the night to use the facilities, my middle feels stiff and I have trouble standing up straight. At least it’s somewhat predictable…

I just wanted to quickly share a recipe that was a big hit: Curried Chicken with Carrots, Rice and Lime. It was really easy to make and I love it when I can stick something in the oven and wash dishes or something, although to be honest, this meal didn’t generate very much dish washing. I used chicken breast instead of legs and I only used one lime and roasted 1 lb of carrots the first evening and then roasted a little less than 1 lb for the next evening (so that not everything needed to be reheated in the microwave). Enjoy!

Last week, Conor and I went on a little date. We jumped into the car and drove to The Shoppe on shady Colfax to decorate cupcakes. The Shoppe is a cupcake, cereal, tea and coffee and design merchandise hubbub – very cute! We were able to wiggle our way to two seats that were close enough to each other and we let the creative juices flow. The cupcakes (chocolate and vanilla) were some of the best I’ve ever had. And even better was the Red Velvet cupcake with a frosty mountain of incredible cream cheese icing that we bought on our way out to share. Best $3 I’ve ever spent. If I could make cream cheese icing like that… well let’s just say our newest family maxim, “that’s how pregnant women get fat” would really come to life!

So I was stung by a wasp today. On my face just to the left of my chin. It hurt. Really bad. The sucker left it’s nasty stinger in my face too so Conor had to come and pluck that out for me. I’ve been stung once before, a long time ago, and so I was glad to already know that I’m not allergic, you know, with the whole pregnancy thing and all. I was also relieved that the wasp (which literally appeared out of no where and somehow became tangled in my super-soft, freshly cut hair) didn’t lay a stinger on Avi, the 10 month old that I was holding at the time. Considering the wasp stung me on the same side I was “hip-holding” Avi, I’m very happy I was the victim and not him. Needless to say my face aches a little and I’m ticked about the whole thing because honestly, it’s January! I’ve never seen a wasp before in January. Aren’t wasps cold blooded? Hello hibernation?
